Hey all, I’m Leia! One of the trainers, here, at HIWB! I started coming to the gym in April 2016 and was instantly hooked. I became a trainer in September and love everything about it! When I’m not kicking butt and whipping out my “impeccable” dance moves in the gym, I’m teaching elementary school children. This is my 11th year as a teacher. I currently teach first grade and absolutely LOVE it. Ever since I can remember, I have always been active. I started taking dance lessons when I was 3 (see…this is where it started) and continued on for 22 years. I taught dance for a while, and have done a variety of other sports, too. I was a basketball player, a cheerleader, and a softball player. If you can believe it, this “old lady” still plays on a softball team. I have always liked to keep myself in shape and have done a variety of exercise classes. HIIT is hands down the BEST thing I have done. I have seen amazing results and love the different types of workouts we do on a daily basis. I am so grateful to Britt for giving me the opportunity to work with and train each and every one of our amazing HiiTers, each and every week.

 

  1. What song gets you pumped up?
    My go-to is usually Jay-Z. Got Money by Lil Wayne is one of my favorites. Basically, anything Hip Hop and with a good beat.
     

  2. What is it about HIWB and group fitness?
    I LOVE working out with people who push you both physically and mentally in a motivating and inspiring way. Britt has created not only a gym, she has created a family. Each person at HIWB supports and pushes each other. We also like to have fun! I MAY be known for singing (not well) and breaking out some serious dance moves, while I’m training.
     

  3. If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?
    A dolphin. They’re intelligent animals, yet they seem to always be happy and look like they enjoy having fun. 
     

  4. Post workout snack?
    ANYTHING with peanut butter. I’m “slightly” addicted.
     

  5. Perfect Sunday afternoon activity?
    It all depends on the season. During the winter, I love doing Hot Yoga to stretch and relax my muscles. In the summer, I love going outside for a long run. I enjoy being outside, but I could easily curl up on my couch and watch Netflix for hours, too. Depends on my mood!
     

  6. Most challenging exercise movement and why?
    Medicine Ball Wall Balls. They are my nemesis. I love to hate them. You will almost always see me using the 25 lb Medicine ball, which isn’t the easiest to throw up and catch.
     

  7. Best advice you ever received?
    If you were handed it, you can handle it. This advice was given to me by one of my closest friends and colleagues (Britt). It’s so true. We go through things in life that are made to strengthen us and teach us. It’s all a part of our journey. The difficulty is realizing the lesson and taking it with you.
     

  8. Food you can’t live without?
    Two words…Peanut Butter. Anyone who knows me knows that I eat peanut butter each and every day. I can’t live without it. I put it on pretty much everything and even eat it straight out of the jar with a spoon.
     

  9. Three words to describe you.
    Loyal, dependable, and strong – not only physically, but mentally.
     

  10. Morning or evening workout?
    Morning. I’m a “crazy” 5am-er. I love starting my day with an energetic and motivating workout. It wakes me up and also allows me to come back at night to train the evening classes.
     

  11. Favorite workout shoe?
    Nike metcons. The best Christmas present from Britt herself. They are comfortable, lightweight, and supportive. It doesn’t hurt that my name is on them, either!
     

  12. Your biggest accomplishment?
    Being the first one in my family to graduate from college not once, but twice. I have a BS and MS in Education from The College of Saint Rose. Without these degrees, I wouldn’t be able to do what I’ve always wanted to do since I was in first grade…being a first grade teacher. This is my 11th year teaching. I absolutely love my job.
     

  13. Your mantra?
    I live by quotes, but one of my favorites is “Everything happens for a reason.” Embrace what life throws your way. It’s leading you to where and who you’re supposed to be.
     

  14. Celebrity crush?
    Channing Tatum. I first noticed him in Coach Carter, but it wasn’t until Step Up that I “fell” for him. He can dance, he’s tall and muscular, and he seems to be a down to earth, easy going, and fun person. Perfection.
     

  15. Favorite season and why?
    Definitely summer. I love being outside and in the sun. I enjoy doing outside activities, especially laying by the pool and working on my tan.
